Home Monitoring of the Elderly made EASY
9th December 2009
Pervaya is a French technology company founded in 2005 to develop an intelligent and active telecare system based on ambient intelligence technology. The company says its SALVEO telecare platform that can detect urgent and critical situations at the person's home by using smart algorithms to analyse their activity.
Pervaya won the "Innovation Trophy" at the 2007 International EASY event (early stage investors for high growth businesses with 350 attendees co-financed by the European Commission).
SALVEO is an intelligent telecare and home monitoring system for elderly people living at home and according to Pervaya it offers functionalities that distinguishes it from existing telecare products, namely:-
- The old person is no longer requested to wear a bracelet or any other accessory, and no manual intervention is required for the SALVEO system to work
- Its proactive and preventive functionalities lets it detect abnormal situations before they become critical
- It takes into consideration the life habits of the old person using an intelligent learning algorithm
- Family members, caregivers, and interested parties are given access to a web portal to inform them of the old person's state and facilitate the follow up of the latter
The SALVEO system is composed of a network of wireless sensors communicating with a small base station. Several motion sensors analyse the activity or the Senior making it possible to detect an eventual fall or a sudden change in the person's life style. A temperature sensor allows the system to constantly monitor the ambient temperature and detects excessive peaks and heating system problems. A contact sensor is placed at the main door of the Senior's home to alert unscheduled absences.
The base station gathers data from the different sensors and sends them to SALVEO's distant server for automatic analysis via a simple telephone line.
