A shopper uses a mobile camera phone is to capture the barcode on packaged foods. The image is transmitted to a central server where it is decoded and used to access a database of food products. A list of ingredients that might cause allergic reactions and advice on the nutritional value of the food product is transmitted to the shoppers phone as a text message.
